Computer Networks

peripheral devices
exmaples of peripheral devices are printers, mouse, scanners, and monitors.
this can be useful in many different ways, printers mean that multiple omputer can use one printer. this is useful in the workplace as they wont have to pay for lots of printers.
scanners can be useful too for the exact same reason. the next way it can help is through the monitors, networking can allow you to do screen sharing with computers that are all on the same network

sharing files
networking allows you to share files between pople on different computers. this also has the problem of security but makes it easier to transfer files to lots of different people at once.

advantages and disadvantages of cryptography

cryptography
advanatges:
keeps the information confidential, as only the user will know the key and will provide it to people that may need to know.
cryptography also helps with authenticity. digital signatures are a good example of this.
the cytographic hash function turns a message into a string of data which helps with the datas integrity.

disadvantages:
some cryptography is very difficult to acces even for someone that is using the code.
cryptography doesnt help cover threats like denial of service or the complete breakdown of an informaiton system.
also poor deisgn of the cryptography could mean that there are some threats that come from the cryptography.

Electronic signature
Advantages:
saves time as its quicker to receive all the signatures at once online then to go collect them or to wait for them in the post.
less human errors, there is no issue with it being lost or not arriving or being in bad condition.
it makes its more paper efficient as they wouldnt have to store/waste paper

disadvantages:
some people dont like the lack of secuirity when sending their information online.
less techinical people may find they have trouble understanding or using the e signatures.
there is the cost og security for all the signatures that are recieved.

computerized booking system

the first characteristic is the amount of people going. this is because the business needs to know whether they can cater for that many people or even whether there is enough. for example, if the company are offering a small bouncy castle for use of 10 children, and the person wanting to hire it has 20 children wanting to use it. then obviously the company will have to tell them that a small bouncy castle isnt useful.

the second characteristic is the age of people. this is useful when seeing whether any discounts are available for the person or even whether they are allowed to book. for example, a wine tasting course could offer discount to OAP's. on the other hand someone under the age of 18 is not allowed to drink and will not be allowed to book.

the third characteristic is the date on which they wish to book. this is important because obviously these days cant fall on bank holidays or when the business is closed. this also has an effect to what will be running on these days. for example a snowboarding course in france may only run during the winter period so therefore applicants wouldnt be allowed to book in august. another example would be no snowboarding during christmas week.

Original Sourced data and indirect data

Original
Pros:
  1. You know the information is reliable.
  2. the data is exactly what you want
  3. you know where the data came from
  4. able to sell the data to people
Cons:
  1. takes a long time to collect
  2. can be expensive to use
  3. may involve having to purchase equipment
  4.  it may not be able to gather original data due to the time of year
Direct
Pros:
  1. takes  less time to gather
  2. cheaper
  3. makes extra use of data you already have y processing for a different purpose
  4. all the data you have collected is available for uses you have not considered yet
Cons:
  1. you dont know where the data is coming from so therefore may not be reliable
  2. may be expensive buying it from a company
  3. you may only want a small piece of data in a large text
  4. you may not be able to obtain the data that you want

Social Media site:
Dynamic:
pros:
  • if your relationship status needs to be changed
  • if you wish to update your contact information
cons:
  • people that are under-aged change their age
  • information can be changed without the approval of others
Static:
pros:
  • your comments will not be changeable
Cons:
  • you may write something as an accident or spell it wrong
  • you wont be able to change the email you sign into your account with

Data

Data

Data is raw numbers and letters. By this we mean it has no meaning.

Information

Information is when you put meaning to the raw data.

Knowledge

Knowledge is when you put rules around the information and relations.

Queen:

'Queen' is raw data.
'Queen is the name given to a female monarch' is information.
'Victoria was a female monarch, she was therefore a Queen' is knowledge.
Data type: String
Format: Text

Information is when raw data is given meaning. This can further help us understand what the raw data is intended for. for example, some raw data used in the leaflet could be text such as '260,000 - 180,000 - 195,000'. To us this data has no meaning to it, but by adding a meaning to it (such as these are the prices of current properties in their database) then this then becomes information because we know what it is being used for.

one advantage to using pictures in the brochure is that it is recognizable. this means that even if you speak a different language then it wont make a difference to your understanding of the picture and also whether you are old or young it shouldn't effect what you see in the picture. for example, if there was a picture of a house then someone from china would understand that this brochure is talking about houses. and to an elderly man they could also understand that it is about houses, without having to  read the text at all.

Mock exam

Mock Exam

The mock exam we took went okay. I found the exam challenging but I was able to cope with it.

I didn't get the result I was hoping for, but then again I did no revision for the exam in preparation. I believe if I had done revision before hand then maybe I would have gained myself a few more marks.
